Breast surgery is a specialised area of surgery, which focuses on the assessment, investigation and treatment of conditions of a woman or man’s breast(s). Breast surgeons have completed general surgical training, and then additional years of sub-specialist training, concentrating on the medical and surgical management of clinical situations such as:
- Benign (non-cancerous) breast conditions: fibrocystic disease, mastalgia, fibroadenomas, and cysts
- Breast cancer
- Patients at high risk of developing breast cancer (eg. strong family history, BRCA gene mutation etc)
Surgical management of the above conditions may include operations such as:
- Wide local excision (or ‘lumpectomy’)
- Mastectomy (removal of the whole breast)
- Oncoplastic surgical techniques (eg. mammoplasty, so-called ‘Goldilocks mastectomy)
Maven Centre is honoured to have Dr Alayne Moreira working as part of our team. A Melbourne girl born and bred, Alayne completed general surgical training through the Alfred Hospital. Alayne completed her Breast Surgery sub-specialty Fellowship in 2023, under the auspices of the peak professional body, BreastSurgANZ. To advance her patient care even further, she is currently undertaking a Masters in Advanced Breast Surgery. Alayne works publicly at Western Health, and is a fantastic addition to the Maven Centre team.
Male patients are welcome to consult Alayne at Maven Centre, or at her rooms in Ascot Vale.
