Dr Phillippa Wootton is a dedicated, UK-trained General Practitioner specialising in women’s health. Over the past 8 years, she has provided comprehensive care to women in the western suburbs, and is passionate about empowering her patients through education and personalised medical treatment.
Dr Wootton graduated from Bristol University (UK) in 2007, and has since completed extensive training in reproductive and contraceptive health, gynaecology, urology, and pregnancy management (including unplanned pregnancy). She completed 3 years of internship in the South West of England and during her gynaecology and urology rotations, became more passionate about women’s health and how that could look in the community. During her time in gynaecology she also performed research into the use of audiovisual aids in consenting patients for hysteroscopy. Her following 3 years of General Practice training were also completed in the UK, with her first GP role being in Bristol before moving the family to Melbourne in 2016.
Dr Wootton is qualified in the insertion of Implanon, IUDs (Mirena and Kyleena) and can counsel patients regarding pregnancy options (including terminations of pregnancy). She also provides shared care antenatal management for patients choosing this option, in collaboration with Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Dr Wootton is excited to be a part of the Maven Centre, and is keen to make a further positive impact on the health and wellbeing of women in the western suburbs community. She continues to work in General Practice at Sunshine City Medical Centre, where she enjoys training the next generation of GP registrars and medical students for The University of Melbourne. When she not at work, she enjoys watching her son play soccer, taking the family on cycling day trips, or heading out camping around this wonderful city of Melbourne and its surroundings.
