Can you tell us a bit about your professional background?
In addition to working within Maven Centre, I also work at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. I completed my training through The Royal Women’s Hospital, Joan Kirner, St Thomas’ in London, and The Royal Darwin Hospital. I completed my medical degree through Monash University in addition to a Bachelor of Medical Science through King College London and Masters of Applied Science in Acupuncture through RMIT University.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself, on a personal level?
I live amongst the gumtrees and love the bush, gardening, running, and soaking up time in the sunshine with my beautiful two children and husband.
What areas of women’s health are you particularly passionate about?
I am passionate about providing holistic women’s health care. I provide general gynaecology care with a keen focus on helping women with abnormal cervical screening tests, heavy periods, pelvic pain, contraception, minimally invasive surgical options, and optimisation of their reproductive health.
What made you decide to become part of the Maven Centre team?
Surrounding myself with people who inspire me and promote excellent care. The Maven team is created by passionate women’s health professionals at the top of their knowledge and skill, in addition to having massive hearts and creative approaches. I feel very privileged to be part of this incredible team!
Can you discuss a particularly rewarding or memorable experience you’ve had working with a patient? What did you learn from that experience?
I recently looked after a woman who was diagnosed with cancer during her first pregnancy. She was surrounded by a large team of people working with her, providing support and guidance as she tackled it head-on.
To walk alongside a woman on her health journey is always a humbling experience. I feel grateful for the privilege to be included at some of the most vulnerable times in a women’s life, and know that through careful communication, education, advocacy and tailored care you can help to shape her experience and make it a smooth as possible.
What can patients expect when they come to see you?
I will listen carefully, learn what is important, share my knowledge and experience, and then provide treatment options including medication, lifestyle, surgery, and acupuncture. This allows a patient to make informed choices about the management that works for them.
How do you work to empower women to take charge of their own health and wellbeing?
I will arm them with information. As they say, knowledge is power! I always strive to empower a patient to be able to make a decision for their health that they understand and feel comfortable with.
